You know what the worst thing about discoursers is how confined to their little world they are, and how narrow their understanding is.
My local communities and pride have been 100% accepting of a-spec people. Like, no question. I was literally unaware of ace discourse until THIS YEAR, ONLINE.
Like, it was so surreal because??? There is a good irl LGBT+ community supporting me, but some teenager on the internet thinks they have the right to tell me I’m “invading” and “don’t belong to the community”?????
Like y'all realize that you’re not “keeping aces out,” you’re KICKING them out. And besides that, you seem to think you speak for the whole LGBT+ when??? I’ve only ever encountered your kind ??? As young teenagers on the internet???? So fuck off????
As an a-spec I’ve probably actively contributed more to the community than a lot of you. Wake up and take your bigot-lenses of your eyes. Hatekeeping is out of fashion
How have you actively contributed?
Excuse me???? I have to actively prove contribution now??? Not that I owe you a damn fucking thing, but:
How about starting up local LGBT+ reading clubs and support groups? How about starting a petition for trans bathroom rights (I live in NC) that I went door to door to have people sign? How about campaigning for those same rights at places like local churches where there is the strongest hatred? How about simpler things like the support of local LGBT+ artists? Or volunteering at local pride to stand guard against protesters and violent invaders? Or any other of the various volunteer work I’ve done, really.
Not that i think any of it would be sufficient for you, but I feel like I need to make a point.
People don’t just sap away community resources. Members contribute as well - or else the community can’t survive. Aces have been present in LGBT+ communities for a long time, and they’ve contributed for just as long.
This fucking “aces will take all our resources!!!” myth has thus far been perpetuated by young members who have no memory of further back community history (such as aces being included under the bi umbrella, or even intra community biphobia and gatekeeping!) and have barely been alive long enough to a) contribute near as much as a LOT of older aces who’ve been in the community, and b) even KNOW about the workings of older communities and the history that isn’t widely recorded.
The ONLY older community members I’ve witnessed trying to pull that shit have, every last one of them, also been biphobic and transphobic.
So tell me, what have YOU contributed to the community that you think you have the right to ask that question?
I’ve been part of the community for ten years, and if some uppity little fifteen year old on this shit site thinks they suddenly have the authority to kick me out or deem me ‘not queer enough’ they have another thing coming
